FAQ

What people ask us before starting a project. If your question isn’t here, write to us.

General

How do you define the sound of a brand?

We start with the brand, not the music. Before choosing a single track we write a music brief: what the brand stands for, who it welcomes, how it wants people to feel and behave in its space. That gives us a musical direction, and from that direction, the curation.

How is the music adapted to different spaces?

Each zone has its own role and energy level: a lobby doesn’t sound like a bar, and a restaurant at lunch doesn’t sound like it does at ten at night. We design each zone separately and make sure they all belong to the same brand.

How is a curation built?

From scratch and by hand. We research the brand, the place and its audience, and select track by track. We mix familiar pieces with others the client would never have found alone, and we manage energy and style across the day.

Do you work with references from other countries?

Yes. When a concept comes from somewhere else, we go and listen to the original before curating: Dublin for an Irish pub, Italy for Italian restaurants, Spain for a Spanish hotel chain. A credible curation is not made from a themed playlist.

Technical

How is the music delivered?

Through our system, which integrates with the venue’s audio equipment. The client doesn’t need to buy or configure anything: we handle delivery and make sure the music sounds the way it was designed.

What equipment does the client need?

Their speaker system. We take care of the rest.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Our solution is built so the venue never goes silent. Continuity is part of the service, not the client’s responsibility.

Are the volumes consistent?

Yes. Every curation is delivered with levelled volumes: no track jumps out louder than the previous one or gets lost among the others. It’s post-production work we do before the music reaches the venue, and one of the most noticeable differences from a platform playlist.

Can it connect to an existing audio system?

Almost always. Most installations are plug and play; when the system is complex or multi-zone, we solve it together with the client’s audio installer.

How long does setup take?

Between the second and third week, depending on the complexity of the project. That’s the time we take to research the brand and design the curation from scratch.

Support

Who looks after the client?

A direct contact. No call centre, no tickets: the person who designed the curation is the one who answers.

What if there’s a technical problem?

We handle it. The client writes to us and we solve it; they don’t have to diagnose anything or deal with an outside provider.

Can you coordinate with our internal teams or suppliers?

Yes. We work with the brand team, operations, the audio installer or any consultant the client has, so the music is integrated rather than one more item on the list.

Licensing

Why does a business need music licences?

Because playing music in a space open to the public is commercial use, different from listening at home. In Mexico the law protects two sets of rights: those of authors and composers, and those of record labels and producers.

Who is responsible for obtaining them?

The venue that plays the music to the public. It’s the venue’s obligation whatever the source: a music service, radio, a DJ or live music. We guide the client on whom to approach, and recommend confirming their case directly with the relevant bodies.

Can I use Spotify or Apple Music in my business?

No. Consumer streaming services are for personal use and their terms prohibit playing them in bars, restaurants, shops or hotels. Using them in a business exposes the venue to penalties.

How it works

How does the music change through the day?

We design content schedules by time and moment: opening, lunch, afternoon, night. Energy and style change automatically, with no one at the venue having to intervene.

Does the staff have to operate anything?

No. The system is plug and play. The client presses play and we take care of the rest. We’re not a platform that creates more work than it removes; we’re hired precisely so nobody has to think about the music.

Can the music be adapted for an event or a season?

Yes. We adjust the curation for an event, a date or a campaign without losing the brand’s overall direction.

Value

How does music improve the customer experience?

Music decides how a space feels: how long people stay, how fast they walk, what they remember about the place. Done well, it goes unnoticed; it shows in behaviour.

Why does a curation work better than a playlist?

A playlist is a list of songs that sound good together. A curation starts from the brand and the space, which is why it sounds different from the venue across the street. It’s the difference between playing music and having a sonic identity.

What does the business gain operationally?

One less thing to worry about. The music stops depending on who’s on shift, a connected phone, or a list someone put together two years ago.

Can one identity be kept across several venues?

Yes. A shared musical direction keeps the brand consistent across all its locations, with adjustments by zone or by city when needed.

Sectors

Where do you work?

Across Mexico and in Spain, with a single venue or several locations of the same brand.

What kinds of spaces?

Hotels, restaurants and bars, retail, gyms and wellness studios, and brand events. Our clients include NH Hotels, Lowe’s, Cartier, Bulgari and American Express.

Do you work with chains or only independent venues?

Both. From a single-location restaurant to a hotel chain with national presence.
